See If She Cares
She wants to avoid that awkward
moment when someone sees that she cares. It’s nice when she can save herself
from the embarrassment of being a bother. But what does she do when she starts
to pick up on the nuances? What does she do when she realizes someone considers
her a nuisance? She smoothes out her
ruffled feathers, and parades like a peacock, because it’s a lot easier on her
to appear aloof than alone. Yet when she says with a cocky air, see if I care,
she hopes they won't see through to the truth that she actually does. Her immediate
reaction to rejection is convincing the world and herself that she really is a
rarity. She’s something of worth and she’s great. Those haters aren't even worthy of her hate. The only response they’ll get is her mock indifference, because she
would rather seem distant than undesired. She’s the actress flaunting her sex
appeal. She’s the pre-teen who doesn’t eat. She’s as real as the elderly woman who
lives across the street. So next time you see her, please be aware, that the
girl you see might be a girl that cares.
